Thangkas

Thangka in Tibetan means “recorded message”. Tibetan Thangka traditionally serves as an important teaching tools illustrating the life of the Buddha, various influential lamas and other deities and bodhisattvas. Each detail on the Thangka has a deep meaning and refers to parts of Buddhist Philosophy. 

A Thangka artist needs an exact knowledge of the proportions and measurement of each deity in order to create a beautiful piece of Thangka. This beautiful and traditional art of Thangka painting is preserved and passed on through the lineage of Thangka masters and their students, who after many years of training become Thangka masters and pass it on the same way. Due to the details and exact proportion required to paint, a good Thangka usually takes 2 to 3 months to complete.
